i frog you

Did I mention that I got a book on Men knits in taiwan? It's got a lot of scarves and some vests and some hats. I've decided to start a new scarf from the book, but as much as I love the patterns in the book, I can not read charts, as directions on their own. The asians are big on visuals, while I need words.

So I have to translate the charts into words in my head, knit it as i go along and figure it out from there. Usually I make some changes to the pattern, I'm more likely to take some elements of the pattern than an English pattern I find on the net, if only because i can't figure it out row by row.

I'm undecided on the pattern, it's really just a right twist and a left twist and a sea of stockinette, and some purls thrown in. It looked good in the book, but when i've knit it up, I'm not so sure, maybe it my yarn color??

I really don't want to frog and re-cast on again, cuz I have done it sooooo many times. the wool-ease started as a february lady sweater (1: first cast-on), then I frogged it to start the scarf, but it was not wide enough(2), then when I figured out how wide I wanted it, I forgot to add four extra stitches(3), Ugh! Recast!! (4)... the ends are so frayed from all the recast ons.

edit to add: I ended up frogging it anyway... I think the pattern is best suited for a yarn that is a lighter color. Plus i think the wool-ease feels a bit thin....
